Janaba 13

Janaba Reserve 2013 originates in our Janaba Vineyard, which is situated in the lower Hakhlil valley not far from it's influx into the Ela Valley. The vineyard has a brown, alluvial soil, rich in river pebbles. It is blessed by a unique mezzo-climate, marked by very cold nights, even in summer.
2013 was a rare harvest year. The moderate summer led to an optimal accumulation of sugar along with a minimal decline in the amount of acid. The vineyard was harvested manually in the beginning of September at  a yield of 36 hl/h. After fermentation the wine was soaked with the skins for 3 weeks and aged for one year in new barrels and another year in 2 year old barrels (90% European oak, 10% American oak).
3,300 bottles were filled in January 2016 and laid down for further ageing.
The result is a complex and elegant 'old world' wine. It has a medium body, a robust structure with marked tannins and a long, spicy & fruity after taste.
In September 2016 the wine can be drunk after chambering, but in its substance it's a wine for long ageing – its aromatic richness and complexity will grow and develop with time. It would probably not peak before 2023 and possibly later.
Serve at 18°-20°C.

Price per bottle ₪ 110, 6 bottles ₪ 630, 12 bottles ₪ 1200.

HSW La Janaba_2013

La Janaba 2013 is a Syrah based premium wine that originates from the Janaba vineyard. 2013 was the first harvest year of the Syrah grapes. In the second week of August were harvested by hand 450 kg. per dunam (94% Syrah and 6% Viognier) and set to ferment together.
After the fermentation the wine was extracted in maceration for about two weeks. The purpose of the wine was still undecided, but in order to leave the options open, we matured 900 litter in four new barrels (two European oak, one Caucasian oak and one American oak) for one year, and another year in two- year- old- barrels.
In the end, we decided to bottle the wine without further filtering. In January 2016, around 1200 bottles were filled and set for further aging.

The result is a complex “old- world” wine, seasoned and meaty, with a medium body, velvety tannins and a seasoned and fruity ending. In September 2016 the wine will be ready to drink, after decantation, but will “reach its peak” in 4-5 years and maybe more.

Price per bottle ₪ 160.
